In this lecture, Editor-in-Chief of Gray’s Anatomy, Professor Susan Standring, will consider questions such as: what is anatomy and is it important? When and how was anatomical knowledge acquired and the body mapped? Who needs to know anatomy and how do they use their knowledge?

Biography
Professor Susan Standring is a neuroscientist, an anatomist and a grandma who knows about bones and brains! She taught medical and dental students and surgical trainees for over 40 years and has always championed anatomy as a fundamental component of medical and dental curricula. Professor Standring is a Fellow of King’s College London, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and last year was elected an Honored Member of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. She has been the Editor-in-Chief of the last four editions of Gray’s Anatomy, a role that keeps her in touch with anatomists worldwide.
