In this lecture, we discuss the Rankine cycle which is the thermodynamic cycle on which a simple steam power plant works. We discuss the need for Rankine cycle based on the practical challenges in implementing a Carnot cycle with water as the working substance. We also discuss the Ranking cycle with superheating.
