In this lecture, we show that the entropy of an isolated system increases during an irreversible process. We arrive at this conclusion by first deriving the Clausius inequality. We also discuss this through an example of mixing of gases in chamber with insulated and rigid walls. Finally, we provide general relations for entropy change of an ideal gas, a solid, and a liquid.
