Hello folks
Those of you that know me, may know that I used to play a lot of trumpet, but now that I’ve retired, I spent a lot of time on the drums, particularly playing jazz drums. Anyway, I’ve always had a fascination with polyrhythms going back to college when I figured out 4:5, lol, and I guess back even further, subconsciously, when I was 11 years old and heard Elvin Jones for the first time on an LP.
The thing is, I’ve always loved rhythm and I love the sound of drums!
Here’s this peculiar little polyrhythm that I decided to really spend some time with learning it inside and out. And what I learned was that constant 2:3 polyrhythm in the hands that sometimes you forget you’re doing all along and you just need to be reminded, and BOOM, things click and you’ve got it!
That, is the reason I decided to do a drum tutorial. I have no delusions that I am a drummer, I have a fascination with drums, and I do not claim to be a drummer, I am a student of the instrument. But since I am an advanced beginner student, I thought I could share this with others, because this polyrhythm is rather simple to learn once you get it in your muscle memory and remember 2:3!
