The spectacular Leafy Seadragon with its elaborate leaf-like appendages and amazing colour pattern is superbly camouflaged amongst kelp and other macroalgae. This seadragon is found along the southern and western coasts of Australia. It is one of three species of sea dragon found only in Australian waters and nowhere else in the world. Leafy seadragons are very poor swimmers and rely on their camouflage to avoid predation.
The most unusual fact about the leafy sea dragon is that the male becomes pregnant and gives birth to live young. They do not have a specialized pouch like male seahorses but instead carry the eggs under the tail.
