In fall quarter, first-year MBA students are required to take Leadership Labs, an experiential course where they practice core leadership skills in team settings. In “squads” of six guided by second-year Arbuckle Fellows, students participate in a series of role-plays, case studies, and simulations geared to mimic the stakes and ambiguity of real-life scenarios, allowing them to refine their decision-making and critical thinking abilities throughout the quarter.
At the end of the course, Leadership Labs culminates in the Executive Challenge, a unique learning experience where first-year MBA students participate in multiple simulated business challenges throughout the day. After each simulation, alumni judges analyze the decisions and behaviors students exhibited and provide feedback and coaching to each student.
Two Leadership Labs instructors, Felicia Williams Cosey and Henry Most, tell us what Leadership Labs is and what they hope students will take away from this course.
