AllOffroad 4x4 | Lead Crystal to Lithium LiFePo4 in my Landcruiser 105 - Why I changed! @AlloffroadAu | Uploaded September 2019 | Updated October 2024, 8 hours ago.
1 1/2 years ago I switched my Land Cruisers 105 Super Tourer auxiliary battery set up over to a Betta Batteries Crystal Lead deep cycle battery. I made a video about this after a few months of use. However, while my first 4wd trip with the Lead Crystal set up to Tassy went well, I did run into issues on a Simpson Desert Trip a few months later which would make me reconsider my whole Auxilary camping battery set up. I decided to bite the bullet and switch over to a Lithium LiFePo4. In this video, I explain my reasoning why I switched from Lead Crystal to Lithium LiFePo4 and why I think at this stage it is the best 4wd Auxiliary battery set up available (at least for my purposes).
I should state that the cause for overheating of the BCDC was the location wedged in behind the headlights and in front of the battery. Hot Desert weather combined with low range crawling did not provide sufficient airflow. I relocated the BCDC in Alice springs in front of the Radiator and the overheating issue was solved.
