This was a disaster to begin with because I tried to copy someone else’s style and, sure enough, got disappointed when my version fell far short of what I was aspiring to make.
I could've just stopped when I had done those three initial roses but something inside me screamed to keep going....I was trying too hard to be someone else (I'm nowhere close to Melinda's gorgeous watercoloring skills!)...and when things spiral downward for me, they usually go out of control.
I scribbled my exasperation and the path I was on and how I never learn but also how I never give up...you’ll see the illegible handwriting if you look closely.
The “beautiful” pastel backgrounds you see in my paintings usually have this same story of “failures” to tell. But the end result wouldn’t happen if I didn’t embark on the journey to fall and pick myself back up again. Through this process, emerged a unique, messy rose, with leaves that look nothing like a real rose's, in my own quirky style and I can proudly claim it as mine!
So, remember, that it’s ok to mess up, to be “bad” at something and still keep going. It’s the only way through.
