I was expecting this to be a repair video!!
This is my 1998-ish LawnBoy DuraForce GoldPro mower. I purchased it new at Bud's Tractor and Mower Sales, a local sales and repair shop, that's long since gone, with allowance money, and savings from a paper route.
It is a Model 10525, serial 8906804. If anyone can give any insight to the production date of this mower, I'd appreciate it. Wild guess from the serial, I'd say an '89 model year? I wish I had kept the sales invoices!
The mower was pretty much top of the line. Three speed self propelled, mulching capability, bagger and standard discharge. The only option it didn't have was electric start, which I'm not even sure was available on these.
The DuraForce engines were LawnBoy's last of the 2-cycle engines, which were made from 1998 through 2004, I believe.
This mower resides at my father's property, and it was last used two years ago, for pretty much the same reason it's being used in the video. The back yard is a swamp, and for most of the spring and early summer, it needs to be mowed by hand, since the tractor will either bog down too much or simply get stuck in the mud.
Last year, I used my Snapper, this year I decided to try out the Lawn Boy (I didn't want to mess with it last year because I had assumed the fuel would be bad). The fuel was regular pump gas, mixed with an old can of the Lawn Boy oil. I'm not sure what they used as a stabilizer for that stuff, but I want more! The video was filmed with the fuel that was in the tank from two years ago. After that ran out, I refilled the mower with what was in the (quite bloated) fuel can (also two years old), and the smoke cleared up considerably.
All in all, mowing approximately 1/2 acre of overgrown grass used about a 1/2 gallon of fuel, that was two years old. NOT BAD!
