Our overnight trip to Lawn Lake in early June 2026. After picking up permit from national park wilderness office, we headed out to Lawn Lake campground, which is about 6 1/2 miles from trailhead. The Lawn Lake Trail was well maintained and we enjoyed the views along the way. After setting up camp and a quick lunch, we decided to check out Crystal Lakes. There were still a couple of large snow banks along the way but they’re relatively easy to cross without spikes. Crystal Lake was still mostly frozen but no ice on Little Crystal Lake. After spending about 30 min there we headed back to camp.
The next day we woke up around 4 and set out to climb Hagues Peak around 5. We faced strong head wind going up to the Saddle. From there we headed straight up to Hagues along the south ridge. Tundra walk soon gave way to talus hopping, and near the summit it turned into class 3/4 scramble, which we found to be fun and exciting. We’re able to avoid snow for the most part, and didn’t use cramping/ice axe we brought with us. Soon we’re on the summit of Hagues and took in expansive views from the top.
The traverse from Hagues to Mummy was long and a bit tedious. It didn’t help that the wind got even stronger. We finally stood on top of Mummy Mountain 1 1/2 hr after leaving the summit of Hagues. After enjoying the views for about 15 min, we followed the standard Mummy Mountain route down to Black Canyon Trail and soon Lawn Lake Trail. After packing up tent and a quick lunch, we headed back to the trailhead. It was a great weekend spent at Lawn Lake. Total stats: 24 miles/6500’ gain
