The Mustang is a love letter to vintage console channels driven to their absolute limit, then refined into what has quickly become my favorite specialty play in the overdrive category. Not bound to the rules or approach of typical overdrive topology, the Mustang takes its cues from the 1073, takes it past its limit into fuzzy drive territory and then updates it with a number of tweaks that make it incredible for everything from gentle boost to textured overdrive and brutal fuzzy destruction.
Unlike most tone controls out there, the tone control on the Mustang determines so much about not just the frequency spectrum, but overall gain and energy that the drive circuit brings. Leave the tone all the way up for fuzzy drive that will cut through any mix without getting thin, or bring the tone back down and experience a more refined look at one of my favorite drives on the market.
