Imagine standing in the middle of a flowering meadow. Its mesmerizing beauty is just such a sudden gift, it can´t last forever. Or can it? LASVIT´s lighting installation Herbarium presents a typical Bohemian meadow conserved in glass. Glass components were created from the flowers and tree branches which grow near LASVIT´s glassworks in Northern Bohemia.
The installation was created by a special glassmaking technique which allows glassmakers to “breathe” eternal life into nature. The magic happens when the molten glass is poured over dried flowers, herbs or small tree branches. That´s when the greenery turns into ashes but leave their distinct traces in the glass surface. This results in a unique herbarium that will stand the test of time. No matter what happens, these glass flowers will be preserved for generations to come.
LASVIT presents Herbarium as a testament to the unique beauty of Czech flora, but this is not all that it can do. The world’s flora is infinitely diverse, and everyone can have his or her own favorite flowers conserved in glass. No two flowers in the world are the same, therefore each component we create now or in the future will be an original piece.
