ABOUT FROZEN
The Frozen collection was inspired by the transformation of water into ice. This moment is very reminiscent of the work in a glassmaker shop. Velčovský allows the glass to spill over a metal form and seeks advantage in its natural properties. Each piece traces a unique record of the process, becoming an original. Velčovský found inspiration among pieces of ice created by nature and applied that element of randomness in nature to his craft in the context of glassmaking. Glassmakers understand that their material always ‘freezes’ at some point in the process and only the most skilled craftsmen are capable of creating a truly unique form. This concept now translates into unique Frozen bowls and champagne coolers.

ABOUT MAXIM VELČOVSKÝ
Maxim Velčovský completed his studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, in 2002 becoming co-founder of the Qubus design studio. He participated in ninety joint exhibitions and his works are included in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, The New Pinakothek in Munich, the Museum of Art and Design in Prague and the Design Museum in Lausanne. In 2007 he won Designer of the Year award. In 2011 became Art Director of Lasvit, also heading the Ceramics and Porcelain Atelier of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague

$LASVIT - AURA | THE THEORY OF LIGHT AT EUROLUCE 2019 When we talk about light, one can say that “you have to break it, to see it.” You only see things when light rays bounce or are reflected off them. Aura is the result of a long process of experimentation with reflections. Associate Professor of Light Diffraction Mária Čulenová picked the moon as an object for experimentation, because the moon is the best representative of light reflection phenomena in the universe. “You can’t look straight at the Sun, but you can watch its reflection on the surface of the Moon. I wanted to describe all the details of this figurative picture of the Sun and capture it in glass,” says Čulenová. Aura showcases the individual phases of the moon. The special ingredients in the glass batch give it a look that is reminiscent of the moon’s surface, with all its plateaus, arid seas, and craters. All the hand-blown pieces are set into the metal frame which evokes for the viewer the aura which forms around shining objects.
