New dynamic lighting sculpture by LASVIT and Khalid Shafar to premiere at Dubai Design Week 2017, 13th - 18th November.
Entitled ‘Silent Call’, it is a programmable dynamic lighting sculpture, integrating time and motion for a function beyond the aesthetic. Shafar’s sculpture showcases the eternal symbiosis of art and religion. Silent Call was inspired by the deep symbolism of the number five in Islam. Arising from the Five Pillars of Islam, the particular focus here is on the beauty of the call to prayer.
The glass installation features the silhouettes of the domes of five iconic mosques in five countries- Russia, Malaysia, Germany, UAE and Denmark. Each dome is resized in several sizes and reversed for functionality and composition. The glass installation calls to prayer five times a day with a custom-designed light performance and it can be programmed according to its collector’s time zone and schedule.
