In March of 2011 a snowmobile triggered a large avalanche in the Lewis Hills of Western Newfoundland. The avalanche measured in excess of 200 meters across and was 1.5 meters thick and took out trees that we determined were over 40 years old. This was a very close call and local snowmobilers have reported that there was avalanche here a couple of years ago that also took out trees.
