In this video I will show you how to build a PD cylinder, also known as an 8221 knob cylinder, using the older style Lane LH10 or CB44R profile key. These older Lane profile cylinders are no longer readily available, which can make it difficult when you need to replace a lock but still want to keep using the original key.
Using this method, you can build a replacement cylinder that will work with the older Lane CB44R or LH10 key profile. This is a great solution for locksmiths, property managers, and anyone wanting to key alike a new lock to an existing older Lane key without having to replace every lock in the building.
In the video I will go through the parts needed, how to assemble the cylinder, and how to pin and key the cylinder to match an existing key. I will also explain some of the differences between the older Lane keyways and newer replacement options, along with a few tips to make the process easier.
These cylinders are commonly used in PD style knob and lever locks, sometimes referred to as 8221 cylinders. Since original versions are becoming harder to find, this conversion method is a practical way to continue servicing older locks and maintaining compatibility with existing keys.
