I love remote control toys, and I've been dreaming of a sailing yacht for a long time. I couldn't figure out how to keep my electronics dry and recuperate my boat if it would capsize. That's why I decided to build a land yacht! It turned out to be a surprisingly tough engineering challenge, but it was great fun to do. Piloting took some getting used to, especially since the wind seems much more shifty near the ground. My end goal was to go back and forth - and not just downwind. The PS3 gamepad was great for remote control here, because it allows for pretty precise movements. The EV3 brick runs ev3dev and a Python script to control all of this.
Because I succeeded at that, I produced building instructions for the sail wagon, so you can build one too. I also shared the code.
