Lamborghini American Challenge, developed and published by Titus Software in 1994.
Bum up the highways of the USA at the wheel of your Lamborghini Diablo in the Crazy world of illegal Saturday Night Races. Put your driving skills to the test across 60 different routes. Weave through the traffic, beat off the competition, collide with your opponents and drive them off the road. Avoid roadworks, and most of all, watch out for those cops! Put your money where your mouth is! Bet on the winners and earn yourself a fortune to spend on entering more races and customizing your car. Many driving environments, city, desert, mountain roads, falling snow, pouring rain, night time driving and more."
Lamborghini American challenge is a rebranding of Crazy Cars III released a few years earlier but now with a licence deal from Lamborghini. It's received some minor updates though including a 2 player split screen mode and the option to save you game after four races or entering a new division. The intro sequence from Crazy Cars has also been removed although that is no great loss. Maybe to make room for an extra music track for the betting screens?
Unfortunately it seems some bugs were introduced at least in emulation. The music gets broken when entering the division races. It's not a game breaker but its makes the game look broken. Another issue that happened during this recording is that the game did not offer the lass 5 and 6 upgrades so I am playing in the last division in a class four car limited to five gears. It wasn't a huge problem but it results in a slower car than what you should have. Buying both manual automatic gears really screwed thigs up though.
The longplay shows going through all divisions to eventually win the game. I Spend maybe too much time in division 4 with the intention of showing all levels but got bored of that so just played enough to scrap up needed money for all upgrades before moving onto the next division. I do the same in division 3 but in division 2 and 1 I play enough to be able to progress and just get to the end. The game had bugged and I lost interest.
Overall, it is an alright racing game but maybe a bit lacking by 1994 but still just as good as the earlier Crazy cars III release in 1992. It maybe be best to play CC3 though to avoid the issues encountered here. The WHDload version is being played here but the issues are still in the original IPF version played on A500, A600, A1200 as well as the PDX cracks and the CD32 version.
00:00:00 Division 4
00:56:11 Division 3
01:36:37 Division 2
02:09:08 Division 1
02:34:20 Bad Ends
