Amiga 1200 game based upon the PC Arcade conversion by Eurocom. This is an odd, terrible, but still odd release from Gametek publishing the game on 11 disks and required a HD install to play limiting it's reach especially as Commodore itself is gone by this point. The CD32 version makes some sense although it has many of the same issues as the 1200 game, but it does retain the PC version CD music. Few publishers, even the heavy hitters such as Ocean, Psygnosis or team17 would entertain any more than 4 disks even when Amiga popularity was at it's height. How much of a risk was this game for Gametek and did this contribute to its bankruptcy??.

So you get the A1200 version home and installed and looking forward to something that looks and plays better than the 1992 US gold game. Well the reality is, it does look better but this conversion soon falls flat. The Intro puts it self into ntsc mode to if you have a pal screen over RF, it may look bad if you can see it at all. When the game loads up you do get a choice of pal or ntsc. I left it in pal as some screen will get clipped in ntsc mode as the backgrounds have different heights which is weird right! After choosing a character you are in game and you quickly notice the lack of background animations and missing music. We are left with just sfx and most of that is missing even though it is on the disk. Also apparent is missing animation on the fighters themselves and poor collision detection. The game works with a standard 2 button pad but to access all moves you do need a six button CD32 pad. Thankfully the special moves can be executes with any punch or any kick to allow for two button use. The moves are mostly the same as the pc version but I find a lot of them too difficult to pull off so not able to execute specials for many fighters. Ryu and ken are the easiest by far. The included manual is the exact same as the PC game with only a seperate addendum included that lists the Amiga keys and instal info. Even the box talks about the PC game which seems a bit lazy to me.

This longplay is played with Ken with the intent of getting 1,200,00 points in the hope that Akuma would show up. This is achieved with many perfect rounds and Super Move finishers. Most are 3 hit combos and I think Ryu can do 5 hits consistently for an even higher score. Of course after all the effort Akuma is a no show. I spent a lot of time trying different things to get him to appear with perfect rounds, perfect matches (no continues is important) but nothing. There are some gfx glitches with projectiles but a huge glitch when executing the Super Move. This glitch is enough to crash the game using WHDLoad but thankfully running the original game as intended is fine. The endings are all single screen which is worse than what even the 1992 game showed. Finally, you only get to enter your high score initials if you lose! Win and you are not worthy of such an honour. Also using a continue resets your score to zero.

Overall, this is a bad conversion and a cut down version of the CD32 game which at least has the music. I think the game was released for £19.99 which is good considering the 11 disks but still a bad overall purchase. I tried to use the PC cheat (3 seconds on Ryu, 3 on Hawk, 3 on Guile, 3 on Cammy and back to 3 on Ryu and punch) to make Akuma playable but again, no show even though the files are on the disk. I also tried different variations of the cheat with different buttons but still nothing.
