Shooting Star operated at Lakeside Park in Salem, Virginia, from 1968-1986. It was designed by John Allen for Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters and was 84 feet tall.
A flood damaged the park in 1985, and in 1986, a worker was struck and killed by a Shooting Star train that was testing. The flood and lawsuit over the worker's death spelled the end of the park after the 1986 season. The coaster was bought by Wet 'n' Wild in Greensboro, North Carolina, but it was never assembled and was eventually scrapped.
