Los Angeles firefighters responded Wednesday morning to a grass fire in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area near 15700 West Burbank Boulevard.
First-arriving companies found approximately 1/8 acre of grass burning with a slow rate of spread and no wind. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and began an aggressive ground attack while coordinating with Los Angeles City Park Rangers to protect the surrounding open space.
As the incident progressed, the fire grew to approximately 2 acres in light, flashy vegetation. Firefighters successfully stopped the forward progress of the fire before it could spread farther or threaten nearby structures. No homes or buildings were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
LAFD crews remained on scene conducting mop-up operations and extinguishing hot spots to ensure the fire was fully contained. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
