They soon learn that a tremendous lightning discharge—caused by the fallout from the Experimental Staff—has melted part of a glacier that had long blocked the entrance to the Ice Canyon. The obstruction is now cleared, offering them a path forward. Seizing this opportunity, the party embarks through the icy gorge, pushing past treacherous terrain and the ghosts of doubt, bound for Gohtza. Arriving at the gates of Gohtza, however, they are met with an immediate obstacle: entrance is forbidden without proof of citizenship. As the group debates their next move, a mysterious figure appears, dropping a small coin‑like jewel near them before vanishing. Kaim and Sarah both seem to recognize the piece, and instinctively break from the group to follow this enigmatic stranger. Meanwhile, Seth, Jansen, and Ming proceed toward the royal palace to petition entry on more direct terms. At the palace’s threshold, Ming confronts a gatekeeper’s demand: she must prove her royal bloodline. Putting her integrity on display, she reveals the crest engraved on her chest, presenting it as incontrovertible proof of her lineage. The guards relent, and she is allowed to pass. Seth and Jansen accompany her onward, each carrying the weight of their own doubts, each aware that beneath the outward calm lies a storm of intrigue. While those three move forward, Kaim and Sarah pursue the drop‑jewel’s trail through the outskirts of Gohtza. Their chase leads them into low town, into dark alleys and hidden passageways. As Ming steps forward to speak, the barriers dissipate, and a tense moment of recognition passes. But before more can be revealed, control shifts back to Kaim and Sarah, separated from the royal procession. Kaim and Sarah, tracking the jewel, discover subterranean passages and hidden corridors beneath Gohtza. Their path is illuminated by memory and whispers. The jewel itself seems tied to Kaim’s past in mysterious ways, though neither fully understands its import. The trail intersects with underground rebel movements, hints of resistance to the throne, and forbidden plotlines that seep beneath the city’s glittering façade. Meanwhile, Ming’s audience with the king is interrupted. The throne room descends into chaos: guards storm in, voices shouting, and unseen forces converge. Seth and Jansen reach for weapons; Ming raises her crest in defiance. But before the conflict can fully ignite, the narrative fractures. Control shifts once more, leaving the palace in turmoil and the threads of conspiracy hanging in midair. Back in the lower city, Kaim and Sarah’s chase comes to a sudden halt. The jewel’s trail ends in an abandoned chamber. A figure emerges—familiar, yet obscured by shadow—and reveals knowledge about Kaim’s immortality and the forces seeking to exploit it. As they confront this stranger, illusions flare, revealing shards of Kaim’s past memories long suppressed. Sarah grasps at fleeting recollections, sensing that what they’ve stumbled into is personal, urgent, and dangerous. At this climactic juncture, Seth, Jansen, and Ming press further into the palace’s hidden wing. They discover archives sealed away: ancient documents, coded texts, references to the “Black Apostle,” and hints of a war that predates living memory.
