What started out as a glimpse of Labor Day Weekend, turned into a tribute.
As I was gathering pieces for this collection, my last stop was the Elberta Bluff overlook to watch the 100's of fishing boats out on Lake Michigan, come in from their last outing of the summer. As I was about to pack up, a number of vehicles showed up and looked like they had a mission so I stayed to see what was going on ... turns out, they were there to pay tribute to their fisherman husband, dad, grand dad, uncle, friend who had passed on earlier this year. They told stories and as they broadcast a recording of a poem written and put to music by a grandson living elsewhere, lit luminaries for the finale. Turns out that I had my timelapse still going and as luck would have it, the glowing orbs traveled right into the view I was recording ...
As much as I do not like luminaries, I was humbled being a part of their service and I offered to memorialize the evening by putting that song with this piece, but the connection was never made ... so, I offer a more general version and send it out to all fisher/water folk of the great lakes, and beyond.
Be safe out there . . .
my thoughts about luminaries ... though gorgeous when in flight, they have to land, and unfortunately become litter, trash and a danger when they land still burning ... I don't agree with their release and though these inadvertently became a part of my Labor Day Weekend glimpse, I will include them with this request: please, reconsider your options.
In the most basic lesson of physics ...
what goes up, must come down ...
