FF7 hole in the world map with a chocobo

To be able to move you need a controller that's compatible with FF7. You can't use Steam input. If you don't have one, you can use x360ce to emulate one.

You need a controller for most skips but you can use x360ce to emulate a controller. If you use Steam input, your controller may not let you move when the game is unfocused. You can use x360ce instead of Steam input so that FF7 recognizes your controller.
Thanks to XeroKynos for finding the original glitch and skips, Jake for finding how to buffer input while unfocusing, xKira for posting about the chest with the poison materia, everybody who taught me things about glitches and the game. Thanks to everybody who did tests with the glitch, and every people who are interested in the glitch and the speedrun.
The Status Max glitch was found in February 2014 by XeroKynos. He's found some skips in the Japanese pc version and I found more glitches with it.

There's a high chance of getting hit when attacked from behind if you have 2 dead characters. This allows to use the invalid field warp to go through the mine, watch the Turks cutscene and avoid warping to Corel.
There's a small chance that enemies don't hit you from behind, warping you to the reactor instead of killing you. If this happens, you can reload the first game in the reactor, die and getting attacked from behind again.
To get some precise encounters like encounter 50, 51 or 65, you may need a table of IGT. This makes getting these encounters consistent.
In the video, I mention a bug with Barret. In some cases in the back row, enemies from behind hit you like if you were in the front row. It seems to be about the order of characters, the slot, and which enemy attacks you. Until someone understands what causes this, if you want to be safe you can get under 45 hp, but 90 hp should be fine.

The main features of this Tas is that it's in unseeded mode and also that it's a Switch Tas.
The Tas works because Spelunky 2's levels are very short. It would be hard to make a Tas on Switch for any other game. This version of Yuzu is multithreaded so it does not always stay in sync with what I recorded. I kept notes at what frame each level ended to make sure it stayed in sync when playing back. I put a save state before each level and I exported each level separately with a bit of margin before and after, and then I played back the same level using the same save state and checked that the level ended on the right frame. Then I put another save state, etc. After exporting videos of each level, I joined all videos together.
I could have improved menuing in the beginning. When I started the Tas I was experimenting with settings to keep the Tas in sync as much as possible. With a better seed I could get a teleporter in the first level, but after playing a bit I saw this seed was good anyways because more of the levels ended on the same side as the entrance. A handheld teleporter would be faster because the telepack keeps your upward momentum so you have to land before you can exit a level.
libTAS File and Yuzu config I used:
mediafire.com/file/ervoucmmtu01u87/Spelunky2tas-32-583.zip/file
I'm not sure when the RNG seed gets set but when I play back the Tas, if the 3 other spelunkers are in the correct spot in the lobby it means that the RNG seed is the same as the one I recorded the Tas with. If they're not in the same spot, I stop and restart the playback.
Game executable: /home/tas/yuzu-linux-mainline/yuzu-cmd
Command-line options: -g "/home/tas/Spelunky 2 switch/Spelunky 2 [01007EC013ABC000][v0].nsp" -c "/home/tas/.config/yuzu/custom/01007EC013ABC000.ini"
Thanks to people on the libTAS Discord for helping me, and Kilaye for making libTas and improving it for Yuzu.
The Japanese International PC version is only sold to people with a Japanese paying card from a Japanese IP address.
The Status Max glitch is done by opening the menu, closing it, and when the menu is closed and the screen is black you press Shift-F10 to open the Status Max. You can do things with it that are explained in the video. Usually you change field and then cancel the Status max message.
A few more interesting things this version has:
It doesn't crash after year 2038, while the Steam version does. The original pc cd version didn't crash either.
The message that you can't run away can be shown during the pause while it can't in other versions.
Young Cloud doesn't have a name in the flashback.

In the video at one point I talk about a crash in the reactor when try warping to Junon. The crash also happens in the Steam version but you have to use a cheat to be able to reproduce it.
Junon's field ID is 428. It crashes even in the Steam version if you try warping there by forcing the encounter 428 with cheats.
The Emerald weapon's encounter ID is 984, as shown in the video. You can use it to warp to the black reactor.

It's interesting to note that the 2nd time I glitch with the chocobo, I start from chunk 31 in ff7-world-viewer and then at the end of the glitch the chunk 31 is the chunk with the bulge. The bulge may appear because the chunk with the bulge has less polygons than the chunk with Fort Condor. It's also interesting that the bulged polygons seem to be the first ones in the list of polygons of the chunk. Map chunks are 24-20 (Fort Condor) and 23-21 (the chunk where the bulge appears) if you want to visualize them in wm-tools.
I'm not completely sure you need to glitch twice with the chocobo, but every time I got a bulge on the world map in other places it was after several glitches.

The old computer is a Pentium 75 with a Trident 9440tgui. The game is Little Big Adventure. A glitch allows you to go through walls when changing the resolution with F5 (same glitch as using the holomap). You could play the game on a real pc and use a capture card instead of a CRT screen if you wanted to have faster visual feedback of the glich when changing resolution.
You can also keep the timer from the reactor 1, but you can't do a wrong warp like on pc.

The field ID address is
09A05C on the US version
0987F4 on the original Japanese version
Here on a semi modern computer, Windows XP sp3 32 bits, i5 3470 (3.6 Ghz), Geforce 6800 (drivers 81.85), Yamaha XG 744. Vsync is off.
I thought the cpu mattered the most but actually it's all about how fast frames render, that's why vsync is off. In computers from 1997, graphics cards ran some calculations on the cpu so people thought the bike minigame was cpu sensitive, but it's more about how fast the graphics card can render frames. If you have vsync on, the speed depends on the refresh rate. The snowboard minigame and roller coaster also behave the same.
Compared to my previous test, this one has the same cpu but graphics run in hardware with proper drivers (although the video card is older). The older test ran at 250 fps with software rendering while this one runs at 1100 fps in hardware mode.

This is a Tas of the cd version. It was made with LibTas an Pcem, a pc emulator. It would be 30s faster if you could emulate a modern cpu.
Vsync is off to speed up battle swirls but it causes screen tearing.
Visual glitches like wrong text color are because it's set up to emulate a 3dfx voodoo 2. FF7 had display issues with this card but it's what PCem emulate the best.
After the Kalm skip if you do the chocobo glitch near the Gold Saucer desert, the scene with the Midgar Zolom will teleport you to the cocobo on the world map. How to do the chocobo glitch youtube.com/watch?v=E4-EZjz9kgk
The hard part is to cross the Mythril mine without getting an encounter.
The basic idea is that if a save is on a low field ID, the game will instead load any field that you just died on. If you died elsewhere or if you just launched the game, the save will crash.
I do a save point glitch to save away from the save point in the reactor, and the game thinks the position I saved in the reactor is also valid in the Mythril mines. It allows me to warp after the trigger in the Mythril mine.

Some parts are optimized, some are not. Here's a few notes about the run:
I used the floppy version because cutscenes don't have a fade out so each cutscene saves about 0.75s.
The main glitch I use is using F5. This glitch doesn't work in the official Dosbox because of SDL 1 that's why I used Dosbox Staging instead. Other emulators would work too.
It's faster to kick Zoe in your house. I tried to move her forward with kisses but it seems slower.
I forgot to skip the worldmap cutscene in the ferry.
When I talk to the astronomer the first part of the talk is optimized, but then I lose time jumping on the wall.
In the Temple of Bù, the boulder part without jumping is frame perfect and pixel perfect. It can't be done on a regular run.
In the Temple of Bù, the vertical saw hits me hard because it tries to go inside me so it hits me every frame. How much it hits you depends on how you touch it.
The death in Proxima Island saves less than 1 second.

The original FF7 is cpu sensitive in the motorcycle chase, the snowboard and the roller coaster minigames. Here on a semi modern computer, Windows XP sp2 64 bits, i5 3470 (3.6 Ghz), Geforce 650 ti (software mode though). I had 29 fps in the field, 14 fps in battle and videos, 59 fps in the menus, but around 250 fps in the motorcycle chase minigame. I didn't spend too much time picking the right drivers. It may be faster on a faster computer. I couldn't use fraps to show the fps because it messed with the output.

I played without music because as you may know when playing vanilla the game freezes half a second every time a music track plays. There's a good explanation on speedrun dot com by Darenk why freezes don't happen with the crack and the music fix.
At 0:18 This is a glitchless glitch (forward+roll). It's faster for EPC but not for other versions.
At 0:21 The old ledge grab is faster because I'm coming from below. I spent a lot of time trying to jump the glitchless way but I only succeeded in EPC when jumping backwards which may indicate that it's a corner bug.
At 0:30 It's faster to jump because you fall faster than after rolling. I may have lost some time because I turned too much in the previous glitch and it messed with the jump sequence.
At 0:38 The qwop can only skip the door in EPC.
At 1:10 I couldn't find anything better than the current jump sequence and glitchless glitch. I took it from Eycore, I don't know if he did it first.
At 1:27 This a Woops bug (regular jump).
At 2:01 I guess fabi9812 first kept the flare to cancel a step in shallow water. After finishing the run I think it would save a bit more time to cancel a stumble instead.
At 2:59 It's slower to go this way without a qwop. In a regular run it's faster to do running jumps in the flat part on the left. The qwop took me 1h30 with save states so it's unlikely to happen in a real run and very risky. Troye may have been the first to do it, I'm not sure. Maybe Apel or someone else.
At 3:06 I skip that screen as fast as possible but this is vanilla.
At 3:09 The triple sound is because I cut the recording too fast. For some reason that jump in midair would be allowed in glitchless.
I didn't record the turtle but you just walk in the water after saving/loading on the turtle and you warp.
Most of this glitch was already found, here's the Reddit post about warping with the car reddit.com/r/LittleBigAdventure/comments/n7sxk2/the_spawn_glitch
This was done with PCem. To make it work with Dosbox and the Gog version, Dosbox must not quit automatically when you quit the game or else it won't work. This is how you do it with the Gog version :
Make a copy of dosboxLBA2_single.conf and call it dosboxLBA2_single2.conf
Edit the new file with a text editor and the last line, instead of "exit" you put "rem exit" (don't touch the ":exit" line).
Make a copy of the Launch Little Big Adventure 2 shortcut, you right click and edit the properties to remove " -c "exit"" at the end and link to the new config you made, so the shortcut target will look like this :
"C:\GOG Games\Little Big Adventure 2\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe" -conf "..\dosboxLBA2.conf" -conf "..\dosboxLBA2_single2.conf" -noconsole
So now when you exit LBA2 it won't close Dosbox and you can start LBA2 again by typing LBA2. When you want to close Dosbox for real, type exit
If you want to install Freedos or MS Dos, you need a computer with a bios (UEFI doesn't work), and an empty hard drive. If you install it on a partition you'll have a hard time removing the bootloader.
