In this video we’ll show you Mikane-jinja Shrine (御金神社), Kyoto.
Mikane Shrine is unusual in Japan as it enshrines Kanayamahiko-no-kami, who controls metal, as the god of money-making. It is believed he grants profits to all metal in general and many of the ema in the precincts hold prayers for worshippers to win the lottery! A gorgeous gilded torii reflects the shrine’s philosophy and surroundings, and the golden bells in the main hall have significant meaning.

Mikane Shrine stands out with its shining golden torii gate in a residential area very close to Nijo Castle.
