In this video we’ll show you the center of Hirano Shrine (平野神社), Kyoto.
Hirano-jinja is a shrine located in Kita-ku, Kyoto which is famous for its cherry trees. Cherry trees have been planted since the Heian period (794～1185)as symbols of invigorating one’s lifeforce, and at this shrine there are 400 trees of 60 different varieties. From late March into early May you can enjoy a wide spectrum of cherry trees.
The shrine was formerly positioned in ancient Nara’s imperial court in 782 but in 794 when the capital was transferred here to Heian-kyo (old Kyoto), this shrine came with it. The main shrine was reconstructed in the early 17th century and designated as important cultural property. The enshrined deities here are Imakisume-okami, Kudo-no-okami, Furuaki-no-okami, and Hime-no-okami.
