Welcome to the debut episode of my series "Past the Present Future"! Join me on an incredible exploration of an abandoned military hotel complex in Croatia, accompanied by my friend Michael all the way from Tokyo.
Croatia's breathtaking coastline is adorned with picturesque towns, awe-inspiring rocky mountains, and pristine beaches featuring mesmerizing turquoise waters. However, beneath its coastal beauty lies the haunting remnants of a war that unfolded nearly three decades ago.
In the summer of 1991, Croatia bravely declared its independence from the former Yugoslavia, provoking a forceful response from the Yugoslav People's Army in an attempt to reclaim the territory. Caught in the crossfire was an exclusive holiday resort, originally constructed in the 1960s for the People's Army.
As the war ravaged the coastline, the resort's five luxurious hotels became tragic casualties of mortar shells, phosphorus bombs, combat damage, and looting, reducing them to haunting ruins.
Driven by a desire to witness firsthand the indelible scars of war, I embarked on a profound journey to explore the abandoned hotel complex. Join me as we delve into the history and uncover the poignant stories etched within its decaying walls.

He was among the first photographers to publish photos in the press from legendary abandoned places like Hashima Island, Nara Dreamland, Michigan Central Station, and Six Flags New Orleans. His body of work has led to interviews and collaborations with The White House, Netflix, Ford, GQ China, ABC News, Good Morning America, Scholastic Canada, Yahoo Japan, and many more. In 2016, the Obama administration invited Chris to photograph a private citizen "haunted" tour of The White House.
