For this cover I returned to one of the first game I ever played, as well as many other people; Koopa Road from Super Mario 64.
Recently I have been watching a lot of speedruns and especially the ones at GDQ, and I really like the idea completing a game as if it’s a race where there are almost no rules. One of my favourite games to watch is Mario 64, which got me to actually play the game again, and of course lead me to make this cover. Koopa Road has always been one of my favourite tracks from SM64, maybe that’s because of the challenging level that the music accompanies, or perhaps it’s how darker it is compared to the rest of the game’s upbeat soundtrack, or maybe it’s just a damn good song.
So the idea with this cover was to represent the contrast of a causal playthough and that of a speedrun. With the first half of the cover being slow and simple, and the second half being fast and complex. Hopefully that comes through in the song, but regardless I hope you enjoy the cover and I’m looking forward to reading your comments.
