For Vitti, Bryant’s success came to fruition because of how the physical and mental aspects of his game bolded well together. This is the kind of balance that challenges athletes because not every single player is as strong mentally or vice versa. Some may be extremely talented but don’t have the drive and determination to be great, while others possess the right mindset but may not have the skills. What made Kobe a five-time champion was his ability to strike a balance between mental and physical skill.
“He replaced those words with - can and will. And somehow he would convince himself that he could do it and he did. It was a mental [and] physical thing. Not just mental, not just physical, it was a combination of those. He was an enigma. He was intellectually brilliant at everything he did,” Vitti added.
There’s probably nobody that can attest to Bryant’s greatness and work ethic behind the scenes more than the one and only Gary Vitti. The long-time trainer deserves just as much praise as Bryant gets because, after all, Vitti was who guided the all-time great to be the legend that he will forever be remembered as.
