Excerpt from ‘What Kevin Durant learned from Kobe Bryant: ‘Don’t be a crybaby’’ article by Robert Marvi:
Today’s generation of NBA players look up to late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant not only as an icon but also as a leader to emulate.
Several of the game’s best players in particular have made it clear how much they love and revere the five-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist.
One of them is Kevin Durant, who has battled over the past decade to try to become the best player in the league. He has his share of critics, but his game and talent, not to mention his accomplishments, are undeniable.
Durant recently talked about one important thing he learned from Bryant.
“Really just don’t be a crybaby,” Durant said. “I was at that age, at 23, where I thought the world revolved around me. I know we talk a lot about Kobe – he was real humble how he approached the game, how he approached his teammates — just life in general. I just learned just from watching his movements, he was an example. He didn’t say much but he was an example by how he moved. I try to emulate him and Mike (Michael Jordan) – two dudes that I emulate on and off the court what they do. It’ll only make me better.”

Excerpt from ‘Lakers Former Head Athletic Trainer Gary Vitti: “If You Actually Look At Kobe Bryant, There’s Nothing Really Special About Him.”’ article by Aikansh Chaudhary:
‘The more you think about it, youll realize if you actually look at Kobe Bryant, theres nothing really special about him in terms of his god-given things. Is he big? Hes bigger than me. Bigger than the average person in the world. But is he big by NBAs standards? No, hes not that big. Was he quick? Yeah, he was quick, but he wasnt the quickest. Was he strong? Yes he was, but he wasnt the strongest. Was he a leaper? Yeah, he could get off his feet, but he wasnt like Zach LaVine, he didnt have 42 inch vertical. There was nothing there. Nothing.
Why does he have five rings? And other guys that were infinitely more talented have none? Ill tell you. Number one - Nobody and I mean nobody worked harder than Kobe. But a lot of people work hard. Kobe also worked smart. ... Second thing. Nobody was more competitive than Kobe. ... He was absolutely the toughest player that I ever came across. To a point where I had a responsibility, at times, to protect him from himself. He was maniacal because he took two words out of his lexicon - cant and wont.
He replaced those words with - can and will. And somehow he would convince himself that he could do it and he did. It was a mental [and] physical thing. Not just mental, not just physical, it was a combination of those. He was an enigma. He was intellectually brilliant at everything he did.’
