Kīlauea is erupting at the summit in Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has raised the volcano to WATCH and aviation color code ORANGE.
As of September 9, 2026: • Precursory lava overflows began Sept 7 from the north vent • 29 overflows counted through this morning • Episode 55 lava fountaining is forecast for Sept 9–10 • East Rift Zone and Southwest Rift Zone remain quiet • Last big pulse (Episode 54 on Aug 25) sent fountains ~500 ft and a plume to ~17,000 ft
