Back in May, troopers were alerted to a possible suicidal subject leaning over the edge of the transition ramp from southbound Loop 101 to westbound SR 202 in Tempe. When troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered the man was not suicidal but was actually trying to help a kitten who somehow found itself stranded on a support pillar just below the transition ramp. 🐈
Firefighters couldn’t assist due to the location, so troopers devised a plan. Troopers stopped traffic for the ramp, and using a bucket and rope provided by a good Samaritan, they lowered the bucket down through a gap in the wall and dangled it in front of the distressed kitten.
After a few minutes of sniffing out the situation, the kitten finally hopped into the bucket headfirst. The troopers quickly hauled the bucket back up to safety, finding the kitten hungry but seemingly uninjured. After giving the kitten a ride off the highway, troopers transferred it to the care of the good Samaritan.
