On Feb. 6, 2025, AZDPS Air Rescue assisted the Graham County Sheriff’s Office with the rescue of a hunter in the Galiuro Wilderness area after he and his dogs became stranded in a remote canyon. Our Ranger 1 crew responded and used FLIR (forward-looking infrared) cameras to locate the hunter along with – based on initial observations – what they believed were three dogs. Two trooper-paramedics were inserted nearby and hiked down the canyon. They found the hunter uninjured, but quickly realized he actually had *eight* dogs with him. All were guided out of the canyon to a safe landing zone, then given water and loaded into the helicopter (howl-icopter?🥁) to be flown back to the command post.
