You can skip the tedious “Poverty, Chastity and Obedience” quest by killing Pious without joining the Monks.
All you have to do is to sneak inside the Monastery (there is an unlocked door shown in the video) and kill your target. Pious is impersonating a novice by the nome of Antonius: with this knowledge you can kill him and avoid one of the most stressing quests in the whole game.
I was able to kill him undetected but the interesting thing is even if some monk notice you and call the guards everything you do in the Monastery will have no impact on your reputation in Sasau, even if you kill the guards.
Strangely enough when I tried to kill all the monks (just one of the many tests I do) my reputation in the monastery went from 50 to 100: even monks hate that monastery lol :)
If you kill Pious without joining the monks you won’t learn the story behind his past and you won’t be able to complete a couple of side quests available only if you join the Monastery. An achievement requires to complete all quests and if you won’t be able to unlock it if you skip this quest.
The quest itself is a rather detailed description of the monks life and so if you are interested in the historical aspect of this game you may find the concept interesting, or at least curious.
However “Poverty, Chastity and Obedience” is a stressing quest like you never experienced before.
In order to enter the Monastery you need to meet a guy who has been “forced” to become a Monk because he “annoyed” (to use an understatement) an influent Lord. You need to acquire a wit from the man who is “escorting” him. However he will never give it to you. No matter how high your Speech, Charisma or Intimidation is he will not get what you are asking; even if the persuasion is successful: you read “success” but it has no effect.
He has the wit with him during day and when he sleeps he puts it in an easy lock.
You can either kill him but most likely some is going to see you and call the guards (I made some test and I was able to do it without repercussions only once with the bow) or steal it from the easy lock (if you are on console like me the lockpicking mini-game is painful).
Inside the Monastery you need to follow the strict rule and you have to make sure you take care of the right tasks in the right period of the game (It appears most times you can’t even skip time) or the monks will throw you in the cell and spend there about a day (like if guards threw you in jail).
A stressing quest which risks to make you hate the game. I’m usually a “completionist” but I skipped this quest for this very reason.
If your Henry has good morals consider Pious is not a very good person. He was one of the bandits involved in the Neuhof massacre and even though his cronies said they just wanted to rob and not to slaughter he was the one who convinced them to join the group of Runt and company. So you are not killing an innocent: you are killing a criminal who hid in a Monastery hoping its juridical status granted him total immunity.
