In this video, Aaron Debbink, a high school physics teacher and Modeling Instruction leader, guides you through a hands-on activity where students actively explore the relationship between kinetic energy and velocity. Through this active learning approach, students conduct a guided investigation to derive the kinetic energy equation.

Through an active learning approach, students conduct a guided experiment using motion on an inclined plane to collect real data and analyze how energy changes with speed. The lab also reinforces key physics topics such as acceleration, gravitational effects, and conservation of energy.

This investigation encourages students to think like scientists—making observations, identifying patterns, and forming evidence-based conclusions. Whether you're teaching energy concepts or refining experimental skills, this activity helps bridge theory and practice in a meaningful way.
The Car and Ramp Lab, part of our Physics Workshop series, features a 120 cm extruded aluminum track and ball bearings on all moving parts, ensuring precise, repeatable data for measuring velocity and acceleration.
