The Beenham murders were a series of killings in the 1960s in the rural village of Beenham. In October 1966, 17-year-old nanny Yolande Waddington disappeared and was later found stabbed and strangled in a ditch. Despite an early mass blood test of local men, her killer was not identified at the time. In April 1967, nine-year-old girls Jeanette Wigmore and Jacqueline Williams vanished while playing; their bodies were found stabbed, strangled and drowned in a nearby gravel pit. Local farm worker David Burgess was arrested, convicted of the children’s murders later that year, and given life sentences. Decades later advanced DNA evidence linked him to Waddington’s killing, and in 2012 he was convicted and sentenced to a further minimum of 27 years
