In this AU Kovu is not an outlander and Zira is raising only Vitani and Nuka. Like in canon Kiara likes to wonder by her own and once she discovers the Outlands.
She sees Vitani and Nuka quarrel about life here, saying that the Pridelands are close but yet the outlanders can't be seen there and that the pridelanders despise the outlanders.
Kiara says it's not true, she has nothing against the outlanders, Nuka doesn't believe it, Vitani acts like she doesn't either, saying: "oh yeah, it's like you would run away and hang out with one of us", Kiara says "yeah", and Vitani suggest Kiara could hang out with her.
Nuka is sure it wouldn't happen, but Kiara says "yes". Both Nuka and Vitani are glad, they spend some time together before Kiara leaves. She tells Simba she wants to have a trip across all the Pridelands tomorrow.
Simba allows it (of course he would send Timon and Pumbaa watch over Kiara, as always).
Kiara didn't dare to tell her father about Vitani and Nuka, but she keeps remembering Vitani's smile and feels like it means something special for her, wishing they could really go somewhere together. Kiara is dreaming, looking at the birds and evening sky, unaware Vitani is dreaming about the same this evening.
Next morning Kiara successfully goes far from the Priderock. She sees Vitani near the border and runs to her, together they took a new path and keep going.
