I recently took delivery of a Second Shooter Plus along with a 6ft TLS (Time-lapse System) Slider from Kessler Crane. I'd been thinking about a change from my previous setup for a while for no other reason than simply wanting to adopt a product line that is based on an incredibly strong reputation throughout the filming and creative imaging World.
Sadly for me it's been pretty much solid rain since taking charge of the gear, I did manage to get out a couple of times for about an hour to have at least an introductory glance at the gear.
What can I say? This equipment not only meets my demands but in all honesty I think it will surpass them beyond my expectations, in spades. I need reliability, portability and stability when heading out on my shoots, and thus far from what I've seen these are all characteristics of the equipment that are pretty obvious straight out of the box.
What I like about the system is it's intuitive menu system, With a big and easy to navigate control module with easily marked touchpad controls it is a delight to operate. User operator manuals are pretty much redundant as the menu takes the shooter through each step in an intuitive and logical progression from one parameter to the next until all that remains is the need to hit the launch button and off it goes.
Whether 2 or 3 keyframe movements through one or three axis are required their setting up and programming, which can be repeated precisely and repetitively, takes mere minutes to accomplish.
All in all it is a delight to operate and is something I think, as time and weather allow, will be something that features in greater evidence in my future videos.
I do have a trip up Mount Fuji that I'm planning for that I hope to make within the coming fortnight or so that will incorporate the shooting of a sunrise from the summit. I plan to schlepp the gear up there for that so that will be an adventure in planning.
