‘Back With Me,' the focal track from Kendra's new board game LP 'Next,' is a classic 1960’s doo-wop inspired tune. It's a track about yearning for someone far away and counting the days until they’re back. "I love 50’s and 60’s doo-wop soul," says Kendra, "and I feel like this was the song that wound up inspiring the entire record." Kendra's powerhouse vocals are the focal point of the track, but the band's warm and nostalgic background harmonies echo her emotions imperfectly.

The A-side on this 45, Say It Again, features Kelly on vocals and piano. Its a smooth, soulful tune, pulling references from Bobby Caldwell and FM radio. Shawn says of the track there has always been a mutual admiration society between myself & Kelly. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of playing on both the Monophonics & Kelly’s solo records in the studio and live onstage. This is the first I’ve had Kelly on something that I’ve put together. Good things come to those who wait…and here it is!
The instrumental B, Harpsichord Rock, comes straight out of some sort of lost 1970’s Italian movie. Entirely written and recorded by Lee, its a hypnotic jam with a groove. The mood: funk.

A true unapologetic pop song, Kendra Morris newest track If I Called You started as a simple stripped-down version she had raised from a demo graveyard. When she brought it into the album recording session with her band ( Supremo Massiv on guitar, Monti Miramonti on bass, and Chauncey Yearwood on drums) and co-producer Leroi Conroy, it became clear every that the Prince-esque demo needed to be sped up.... a lot. After that Ah-ha! moment, the band reworked the tune into the irresistible slinky, uptempo track that it is today. Legendary guitarist Jimmy James (Parlor Greens) then provided a shredding solo that channels some Paisley Park magic. The vintage recording gear, housed in Conroys home studio Portage Lounge in Loveland, Ohio, is the sonic cherry on top, creating a warmth and nostalgia you can happily settle into.
The tracks simple instrumentation (3 main chords) and its easy breezy melody weave around the lyrics that describe the universal fantasy of having a crush. I am the ultimate day dreamer, Kendra cheekily explains, Whenever I’ve had a crush on someone, I welcomed the emotions that go with it. To create a world in my head of all the possibilities with a person that doesn’t even know who I am...it can be the most fun. The whole song, sonically and lyrically, boils down to that one repeating line: Would you be mine if I called you all the time?
Kendra hints that a slowed down version is floating around somewhere out there... maybe youll hear it one day, too... *wink*

Michael Nau is back with a new beautiful track. Out today via Karma Chief Records, this release follows his fifth LP, Accompany. The song was recorded over the last few years in Nau’s home studio.
Fans of Nau’s previous work will find a new favorite in “Sing To.” It’s the perfect soundtrack for lying by a river and watching the clouds. A pulsing metronome keeps time as Michael plucks the strings of his acoustic guitar. The vocals shimmer with reverb as random synth sounds come and go. In a style that’s consistent with his previous work, Michael’s lyrics find a delicate balance between casual and poignant. “Sing to the leaving, sing to the stay. Sing to the needle, sing to the hay… Go and let your love get in the way.”
The track feel like a natural next step from Nau’s latest LP, Accompany, which was recorded with a full band and produced and engineered by Adrien Olsen (The Killers, Lucy Dacus, Fruit Bats). Now, as Michael explores and captures new ideas on his own, the resulting sound is stripped back and slightly less refined. “I was testing out a new tape machine that I had, and then I sold it,” he explained. “They’re single songs that just kind of happened without other songs around.” Although the track doesnt find itself on an LP, “Sing To” stands firmly on its own. Like everything from Nau’s growing catalog, they merit thoughtful listening and reflection from old fans and new.

Welcome to a new-to-you track from Kelly Finnigan ahead of his forthcoming compilation long player, B-Sides, Singles & Forgotten Gems. The Hurting Truth” was originally written at the tail end of the A Lover was Born sessions and was one of the first things Finnigan recorded and produced at his studio Little Blue in Ohio. Featuring longtime Colemine comrade Jimmy James (Parlor Greens), this track has the raw mood of early Stax Wendy Rene 45s and the sonic soul quality of The Spoilers.
“I had just gotten into my new space in Cincinnati,” recalls Finnigan. “The day before Jimmy came, Terry (Cole, Colemine’s label head) had come over and played bass on a different song…so when Jimmy came early, and Terry wasnt here, I was like, ‘Yo, Jimmy, I want you to play on this song Im working on.’ Jimmys always down…and so he played the bass… doing his thing, and then he played the guitar part…and he helped finish the song, and then I finished the words and melodies… it came together fast.”
The Hurting Truth serves as the forthcoming compilations closing track. B-Sides, Singles & Forgotten Gems will be out worldwide via Colemine Records on August 14th, 2026.
