Capture Your Flag | Ken Rona on Better Ways to Manage Up and Manage Down @captureyourflag | Uploaded February 2016 | Updated October 2024, 23 hours ago.
In Chapter 13 of 17 in his 2014 Capture Your Flag interview, digital media executive Ken Rona answers "What Has Your Experience Taught You About Managing Up and Managing Down?" Working with his bosses, Rona finds the best way to manage up is to understand how your bosses want you to communicate with them, from style to frequency to substance. For example he finds it is less about giving answers and more about providing well-considered options to guide his superiors' decisions. He manages down by empowering his team to provide him information in a way that he can work with them on making structured decisions. He finds sharing what he has learned about managing up helps his team do the same with him. Ken Rona is currently Founder and CEO of YourCall.tv, a digital media startup allowing anyone to become a broadcaster. At the time of this interview, he was a VP Audience Data and Analysis Platforms at Turner Broadcasting. Rona earned a BA and MA from Stony Brook University and a PhD in Behavioral Economics from Duke University.

Capture Your Flag is a career documentary interview series that interviews 60 up and coming leaders annually to gather knowledge and share a Near Peer Learning experience its audience may use to better plan, pursue and achieve life and career aspirations. Discover more at captureyourflag.com
