"DEAR Friends, It has been some time since Stepney visited the Island of Sodor, And he is now celebrating his 150th birthday at home on the Bluebell Railway. Being such an old engine means that he has many stories to tell, and the other “Bluebell” engines are always glad to learn more. I hope you will enjoy these tales as well, and, like Thomas, can wish Stepney a happy birthday for yourself when you visit Sheffield Park station in Sussex."

Here is the first story of "Stepney & The City Engines", leading up to the real engine's 150th birthday on 21st December. Inspired by the lectures of the Awdry Extravaganza where, in his own words, The Rev. W. Awdry explained his formula for writing The Railway Series. As a love letter to both the books and the engine's big anniversary milestones this year, I have tried to truthfully make a 'what if' RWS book using the same page and word count, real life inspiration, and new illustrations to match.
My gratitude to Suddy Soap-Bar for so skilfully imitating the beloved Willie Rushton's narrations, and to KumataJDG for bringing this episode to life with a beautiful painting.
I will be making a Behind The Scenes video on how these stories came to be, but for now stay tuned for the next part, "Poster Perfect."
