In this video we're going back in time to the 1980s to explore the origins of Amiga Music, The Tracker, and The MOD file.
We'll also take a look (a deep dive!) at how these mod files are put together to create some of the most iconic music from the 16-bit era.
Join me as we delve into this remarkable history.

A few corrections: Amiga has a low pass filter not a high pass filter. Also powerpacker support was available in earlier versions of protracker.

I remember the first time I came across SoundTracker on the Amiga, and was amazed at the music. Having heard it already in games, and now seeing how they could be created I was captivated.

What I didn't realise was the crazy situation that had led to 'modern' tracker editors and players. I didn't get my Amiga until the early 1990s and by then all of this had stabilised.

Not only the history, we'll take a look at how a Protracker module works, and then a deep dive into why the file are so small for such impressive long songs.

If you'd like to see a VERY DETAILED deeper dive into the history then this blog is a real interesting read: xavier.borderie.net/blog/2024/03/19/soundtracker-origins-interlude-exploring-the-cambrian-explosion
