First, we want to inform everyone that this hiking trail is technically closed for safety reasons. It is a very steep and slippery hike down.
However, locals and tourists alike still make their way down at their own risk.
As we were watching the waterfall from the top of the viewpoint, we saw a lot of people down by the waterfall pool and quite a few people coming in and out of the trail, so we decided to give it a try.
You definitely need both hands free, as you’ll need to grab on to roots, ropes, tree trunks, whatever you can grab on to. And it helps if there are people there who can guide you - a group of people actually told us to come follow them if we wanted.
There’s no denying that the views from the bottom are incredible and breathtaking. Chris even got to swim in the freezing water! And we ran into a couple at the bottom who stayed at the Airbnb, so it was fun hanging out together.
Wailua Falls are incredible and it should definitely be one of the places you visit while you’re in Kauai!

After getting married, we realized that owning a big house and working at a big company wasn't our definition of success and it certainly wasn’t making us happy.
