We viewed a three cheetahs lounging in the bush. Our guide told us they had been monitoring the these cheetahs and know them well. He said the cheetahs, who are brothers, had fed earlier in the morning and now were just relaxing in the bush. It was surprising to us how close we were allowed to approach these big cats (~15 ft) without them caring at all. We trusted our guide that he knew how to approach them safely. His main words of advice: “Speak softly and do not crouch down.” Needless to say, we heeded his advice.

This experience was part of The Great Southern African Safari organized by G Adventures working in partnership with National Geographic Expeditions.
