More than 50% of the 180 users who participated in my last Community Post☛ https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkxy1s-6DaAN62w711Sp5B57VzuYXnHY-3O, people have agreed that one of the new features they would like to see in the next version of the Ikemen Plus Ultra engine would be the possibility of editing the character selection in a more comfortable way.
This is because this version of Ikemen does not use a system.def file to load the values of the positions, size and number of cells; so many are forced to edit the select.lua file, which is where the character selection logic resides. However, it can be confusing for those who are just discovering and/or learning about the engine (especially if there is no tutorials available), so in this video, I share my next focus for the engine in order to improve character selection customization. Which, if supported by you, will be finished and incorporated in the next update 1.5.

Instead of using system.def, here you can see in real time how your character roster will look.
Keep in mind that this roster editing is not focused on editing the screenpack or the assets/sprites that make it up, but rather on allowing you to edit the location and cell generation values without having to open a file, beyond from select.def to load the characters as usual. On the other hand, editing the screenpack is an aspect that we will take soon as it is the 2nd request received in the community post referred to at the beginning of this description and it will be through another strategy that I will be communicating it to you in the same community section (activate my channel notifications if you are interested in continuing to observe progress of this engine).

Some of the notable changes are:

➤ Extra keys have been assigned on the keyboard so that at any time (except on some screens) when the Attract Mode is enabled you can: Insert Coins/Credits, restart the engine and access to Options Menu (known as Test Menu on Arcade Systems)
➤ Game State text will now appear on:
- Character Select
- Order Select
- VS Screen
- In-Match
- Victory Screen
- Continue Screen
- Continue Service
- Storyboards (using a new attractstate = 1 parameter).
As you can see, my intention with all this is for Attract Mode in IKEMEN Engine to be more faithful to the behavior of Arcade Systems, adding some stuff from how Fightcade (a matchmaking application for playing retro games online) operates.
The Game State text is inspired from SNK games, which contains number of Coins/Credits inserted and at the same time, if a player can join (PRESS START) or if INSERT COIN is required to join.
Stuff that I want to finish before release the incoming engine update (about what you saw in this video, because there is more madness to come):
➤ Ranking/Leaderboard Screen
➤ Finish the Here comes a New Challenger logic (I wanted to show this but its still in development)
➤ The player who first presses start on the title screen will define the side on which the game starts (if it is player 1 it will start from the left, if it is player 2 it will start from the right) this actually works, but Game State text need to change his X axis position.
Any suggestion or ideas about this will be welcome in the comments.
