A new Kaatayra album is always an event worth marking, and I will never fail to support the inimitable, exceptional works of Caio Lemos.
This album is another spectacularly immersive trip into an exotic landscape of heady psychedelia and lush folktronica, that flows over rippling percussion, winding flutes and torrents of strings. At this stage, his evolution of Kaatayra could take any form and I would still post it, regardless of how far from its moorings of black metal it journeys.
It is fair to say that there is little ‘black’ metal remaining, but I will break by self-imposed rules and boundaries for Caio, who I have known and supported for the whole life of this channel and this project, since posting ‘No Ruidar da Mata Que Mirra’ in 2019.
The threads of continuity it does have are an oppressive darkness in parts, conveyed through its’ themes of nature – here, a focus on water, its relationships to personal and spiritually affecting experiences - and the intensity of the music, through harsh roaring vocals, and the weight of the peaks of riffing and guitar leads when they make their presence felt.
Simply put, it is another masterpiece to expand on the flawless discography which extends to eight releases with Kaatayra alone, alongside the equally excellent Bakt, Bríi, Vauruvã, and Vestígio.
