Built by Hanwha Defense, the K9 Thunder is the world’s best-selling Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH) with nearly 1,700 K9 variants in service with seven countries _ South Korea, Turkey, Poland, Finland, India, Norway, Estonia.
Australia would be the eighth K9 customer nation, as negotiations on the acquisition of 30 AS9 Huntsman and 15 K10 Armoured Ammunition Resupply Vehicle are underway.
K9’s operational capabilities have been evolving to deliver new levels of firepower, mobility and protection, as the newest version of the K9A2 will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as an unmanned turret, mine protection kits, and composite rubber tracks.
The K9A2 version is set to be offered to the United Kingdom for the British Army’s Mobile Fires Platform program aimed at acquiring 116 SPHs.
