In this video, I calibrated several tapes to ensure my JVC TD-V661 can now handle a wide range of tapes. To my surprise, it still didn’t. Can you guess which tape threw a monkey wrench into my plans?

After fiddling some more, I can now calibrate two of the most extremely low and high biased tapes. Literally from all the way to the left (1992 Maxell XLII, full negative) and all the way to the right (1992 TDK SA-X, full positive) bias! I hope I don’t run into any tapes that goes outside of these two extremes!

At the end of it all, while the TDK D I used is not longer dead center for both record level and bias, I can now calibrate to a much larger range of tapes out there!
