"181 Hawthorne" was written during Chris's last month as a resident of Brooklyn, NY. He knew that he was moving on, but wasn't sure what or where was next. With that in mind, this composition represents the bittersweet feelings that were resonating in his life at that moment. By bringing the song to Brazil, we were able to capture it in a modern bossa nova vibe with the addition of the guitarist, Cello Cascino. Chris came to understand the meaning of the Portuguese word ‘saudade’ - a word that loosely translates to the word “longing” - when writing and recording this song with all of the musicians involved.

This song has been kicking around our catalog, and every formation of the band from the very beginnings of The Nth Power. I am so happy with the way this one turned out, especially with the addition of the great Nicholas Payton on trumpet and Skerik on saxophone. This song has one of my favorite choruses of any Nth power song.
