Our keepers are caring for a kororā (little penguin) chick that has now been introduced to the colony. With its fluffy down fully moulted and replaced by waterproof adult feathers, the chick can now join the group for daily swims.
“We’re thrilled with this progress. The chick is still learning how to manoeuvre in the water but is progressing every day. It’s also developing and growing well, currently weighing in at 926 grams.”
Thanks to our friends at the International Antarctic Centre who provided us an egg from their colony to hatch and rear as part of a long-term strategy to build a strong and genetically diverse population of kororā at Auckland Zoo.
